Premier League hopefuls, Abia Warriors Football club of Umuahia has appointed new Patrons to help it make an appreciable impact in its Premier League debut season.
In a statement issued in Umuahia, the media officer of the Club, Igwe Onuoha said the patrons will be formally invested on Wednesday November 20, 2013 at the Michael Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia.
According to Mr. Onuoha, the patrons were chosen as a result of their proven track records as philanthropists, socialites and sports enthusiasts in recent years.
The occasion, in which Abia State Sports loving Governor and Chief financier of the club, T.A. Orji will be the Special Guest of Honour, will be used to unveil the club’s website, official Uniform, Official Logo and programmes of the club for the 2013/2014 Premier League Season.
Abia Warriors FC got promoted to the top flight after placing first in Group “B” of the Nigeria National league last season ahead of Crown FC of Ogbomosho who also got promoted to the Premier League.
The Warriors, Crown FC and Giwa Fc of Jos as well as Taraba Utd of Jalingo engaged in a “Super Four” contest to determine the authentic champions of the National League and Abia Warriors only lost on
penalties to Giwa FC in the final decided at the FIFA Goal Project pitch, Abuja.
Among the newly appointed patrons who will be investitured during the award nite include the Speaker, Abia State House of Assembly, Ude Oko Chukwu, the President, Ochendo Youth Foundation, Eng Chinedum Orji (Ikuku Oma Abia) oil magnet Uche Ogah, Chancellor, Gregory University, Uturu, Dr Greg Ibe, business, mogul Cyprian Nwankwo and the Deputy Chief of staff to the Governor,Charles Ogbonnaya.
