The organiser of the BIGI Abeokuta 10 Km 2021 Race on Monday said that the race would hold on Nov. 13 in Abeokuta, Ogun.
Bukola Olapade, Chief Executive Officer of Nilayo Sports Management said that the race would take off from the Alake of Egbaland Palace and end at the MKO Abiola Stadium.
Olapade said the race would feature only Nigerian runners.
He told newsmen that the race tagged “Running For Naija” Homeland, would see Nigerian runners going home with dollars prize money.
The race’s General Manager, Yusuf Ali disclosed that every participants, able and wheelchair runners would wear chips to avoid cheating.
“Spy cameras will be mounted on the routes and athletes will have social distance at the start point identified by the running numbers in front of them.
“All COVID-19 protocols will be observed in the race,” Ali said.
He, however, called on media personnel covering the event to be mindful of the mandatory distance to the athletes to avoid any distraction.
“At the last race in Ijebu Ode, media personnel on motorcycle covering the Ijebu Heritage Half Marathon, unknowingly damaged the mats for transponder which was supposed to help monitor runners on the routes.
“We don’t want a repeat of this at the Bigi Abeokuta 10km Race,” Ali said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the winner of the race will go home with 2000 dollars, second place 1,500 dollars and third place 1000 dollars for both the male and female races. (NAN)
