Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan on Sunday humiliated visiting Bayelsa United Football Club 4-0 in a Match Day 4 fixture of the 2017/2018 Nigeria National League (NNL).

The Oluyole Warriors had to wait for long before a brace from Olufemi Opeoluwa in the second half set them on course.

Opeoluwa scored in the 53rd and 66th minutes of the game, before AbdulJabar Anifowose and Junior Ayobami scored in the game’s added minutes.

Anifowose scored in the first minute of second half’s added time, while Ayobami scored three minutes later.

3SC’s efforts to take a lead in the first half were thwarted by visiting goalkeeper Innocent Amos, including saving a 45th-minute penalty kick from Mohammed Akilu.

The referee had awarded the penalty kick to the home team after Opeoluwa was brought down by Monami Lazadi.

Speaking after the match, coach Edith Agoye of 3SC described the result as “a fantastic win’’, adding that it was a statement that 3SC were fully back.

He stated that the victory was a result of the club’s resolve to go into every game with the determination of picking the three points.

“I feel very happy. It is very important to take three points. We did not just pick the three points, but made a statement that the club is fully back.

“In the first half, we felt jittery and lost our scoring chances but our boys raised their game in the second half to secure the three points.

“The victory was out of the collective efforts of our boys.We are number one on the log now and we hope to remain there till the end of the season,’’ the former striker said.

Agoye thanked the club’s fans for their numerous support even when all was not going well with the team, pleading with them to continue to support the team.

On his part, coach Richard Bubugha of Bayelsa United said his team conceded four goals in the second half “because the players did not get it right’’.

“Sometimes you plan for victory and fail to get it right due to some factors. This is what the game of football is all about. We hope to get back on track as the league is still very open,’’ he said.

Bubugha said the team would return to the drawing board to strategise on how to get it right in subsequent matches.
