Flamingos head coach Akeem Busari has said that it is important for his team to stay grounded as they aim to progress further at the ongoing 2026 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
The West Africans overcame their slow start to earn place in the Round of 16 following a thrilling 3-1 victory over defending champions North Korea on Friday.
Nigeria will do battle with the runners-up in Group F for a place in quarter-finals.
Australia, Mexico, and Chile are fighting to earn the slot in the group.
Busari, who expressed satisfaction with his team’s performance against the North Koreans was reluctant to go overboard.
The gaffer stated that they will need more stronger performance to go further in the competition.
“The matches are going to get more difficult. We want to show more character, mentality and intensity in our play. We have to make sure we don’t become complacent. We respect the game, the referees and the rules; that’s how we’ll keep progressing,” Busari told FIFA.
