Bauchi State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Malaria has distributed six million doses of ACT Antimalarial Drugs in the state, its Executive Chairman, Dr Mansur Dada, has said.
Dada told newsmen on the agency’s activities on Monday in Bauchi that the drugs were distributed to 500 public health facilities in the state.
“The agency also distributed three million RDT kits for malaria diagnosis through the 500 health facilities free of charge and 400,000 Long Lasting Insecticidal Nets through routine distribution at public facilities,” he said.
Dada said the state government had placed high premium on the eradication of malaria, adding that 702 health workers were trained to facilitate the malaria fight.
“The training is aimed at taking proactive measures to prevent the prevalence of malaria in the state, also the state government has provided consumable drugs to all health centres worth millions for malaria prevention,” he added.
Dada however lamented that poor environmental sanitation and awareness , as well as inadequate finances were the major challenges facing the agency.
He urged all stakeholders including traditional and religious leaders, government agencies, partners and the media to help in promoting sanitation in communities
