By Gracious Akujobi Minister of Sports, Bolaji Abudullahi on Tuesday in Abuja unveiled two foreign Directors to work with the Athletics Federation of Nigeria ahead of the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the 2016 Rio Olympics.
The two Directors Angie Taylor and Eric Campbell, were hired from United States of America and signed on a four-year contract with the NSC and are charged with the task of designing the programmes for the athletes
Abdullahi, expressed confidence in the Directors’ technical competence to prepare the country’s athletes for future global sporting events, stressing the need to engage experts to assists in developing a high performance system after the country’s woeful outing at last year’s Olympics Games.
“I have repeatedly maintained that the failure of London was the greatest impetus we ever had to begin to do things differently and think more creatively on how to improve our performance on the global stage and we can’t achieve that without a robust plan to turn talents into world champions which does not happen overnight.
“In addition to the national performance director we have hired, we are going to deliver a high performance center which is almost completed by January next year. We believe that the presence of the experts will reflect at the commonwealth games in 2014” Abdullahi stated.
Speaking, both Directors Ms Taylor and Mr Campbell assured of their readiness to swing into action which they said would translate into results within a period of time.
