The inactivity of the national senior women’s football team, Super Falcons has ensured that Nigeria is ranked low in the FIFA Monthly Rankings.
Although Nigeria beat Cameroon in the final of the African Women Nations Cup (AWCON) late last year, the country is still ranked at number 34 in the latest FIFA Ranking.
Expectedly, the United States of America which is the most active national team is top on the card with Germany, France, Canada and England listed in the top 10 teams.
Others are Japan, Australia, Brazil, Sweden and North Korea.
Interestingly, Team Nigeria which was ranked Seventh in 1999 prior to the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games has been overtaken by North Korea, a country that Nigeria defeated 2-1 in the FIFA Women’s World Cup final in 1999 in USA.
However, Nigeria is still the highest ranked Africa nation with the second ranked Ghana in the 46 position, a clear 12 points below Nigeria.
Africa’s other top 10 nations are Cameroon (47), Equatoria Guinea (52), South Africa (53), Cote d lvoire (64), Tunisia (72), Morocco (73), Algeria (76) and Egypt (81).
