By Olusegun Lawrence Dozens of protesters on Tuesday stormed the National Assembly Complex in Abuja, demanding that the Senate should recall Senator Ali Ndume, who is on suspension.
Ndume, representing Borno state and a former Senate Leader was suspended last week for six months.
The protesters displayed placards and banners with various inscriptions, insisting that the suspended Senator must be allowed to resume parliamentary duty forthwith.
“Southern Borno robbed of our democratic mandate,” one of the banners reads.
Ndume was s suspended by the Upper Chamber last week for raising unsubstantiated allegations against the Senate President, Bukola Saraki and Senator Dino Melaye (Kogi West).
The embattled Senator had while quoting media reports linked the Senate President to an armoured Range Rover Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) impounded by the Customs for possessing fake papers.
Also, he alleged that Senator Dino Melaye, did not graduate from the Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, quoting an online report.
The matters were later referred to the Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges, which found the allegations not true.
Consequently, when the report of the committee was debated at plenary last week, Ndume was slammed with six months suspension.
