Former Governor of Anambra state, Chris Ngige of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ifeanyi Uba are among the 23 candidates whose names have been published by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) ahead of the November 16 governorship poll in Anambra state.
Also on the list were Nicholas Ukachukwu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Willi Obiano of All Progressive Grand Allainace, and Ifanyi Ubah of the Labour party.
According to the Chief Press Secretary to INEC chairman, Kayode Idowu, a total of 23 political parties nominated candidates for the governorship and deputy governorship.
Regarding the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that have with pending court cases, Mr., Idowu said the commission relied on the orders of Federal High Court in Awka and Port Harcourt respectively.
The CPS said Mr. Idowu the listing of candidates by INEC is in line with the provisions of Section 31 (3) of the Electoral Act 2010, as amended.
“The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has today, September 24th, 2013, published the Form CF001 (Personal Particulars of Candidate) of candidates nominated by political parties for the November 16th Governorship Election in Anambra State”.
Meanwhile, only those on the list published by INEC are allowed to carry on with electioneering campaigns, saying that violators of the rule would be handed over to the security agencies.
