Few hours after the Federal Government directed that striking Resident Doctors be sacked, the leadership of the National Association of Resident Doctors has agreed to suspend its strike.
The Minister of Health, Prof Isaac Adewole, had directed via a circular on Tuesday that Chief Medical Directors should fill all vacancies.
The decision to suspend the strike was taken at a meeting with other health sector stakeholders on Tuesday.
Consequently, the leadership also appealed to members to suspend the strike until the next meeting scheduled for July 14.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, brokered the peace at a meeting with Resident Doctors and other health workers in Abuja.
Meanwhile, the meeting will reconvene in three weeks to review progress made in the implementation of agreements reached in the meeting slated for July.
