The National Open University Students Association of Nigeria (NOUSAN), has condemned in strong terms and in its entirety the inordinate and unscrupulous attacks on former President Olusegun Obasanjo, by the A statement by the students states that “Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, a Life Patron of our noble organization (NOUSAN), has been slandered over his recent letter to Senate President Bukola Saraki, detailing the wanton corruption and the travesty spending going on at the National assembly.
“The leadership of this organization(NOUSAN), has thrown it weight in support of the former president and a statesman of class, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, owing to the fact that the content of his letter to the senate did not only enveloped the parody of accountability and sincerity at the national assembly, but also make vital recommendations to Nigerians and especially, to her leaders across all sectors, on how we can sacrifice concerted efforts in restoring the dwindling state of our economy. He also played a fatherly role with great commitment, in advising our leaders to showcase and live an exemplary live of openness and transparency in their affairs, in line with the change agenda of the current administration, stating that; it will not only speak good of them, but will also be a footprint for the upcoming generations.
“We have noted with dismay, the over-bearing attitude of Senator Dino Melaye, the official Spokesman of Senate. The tireless efforts of Senator Melaye in casting aspersions on former president Olusegun Obasanjo are baseless and lack merit. It’s apparent and conspicuous for all to see that the numerous questions, that beg for answers remains unanswered, and Nigerians are waiting for a rejoinder to the letter or better still, the citizens of this nation are waiting for the senate leaders, including Senator Bukola Saraki to sincerely speak about the spendings of the National assembly. We advice Senator Melaye to go back to his roots as an activist, and take a second look at the letter. We advise him to let go off his new political found self, which has turned him into an island of moral decay, considering his recent activities as a senator, barely 10months after being an activist.
“It is in view of these, that we are asking the Nigerian Senate to leave the messenger and treat the message by publishing the Budgetary allocation and expenditure for Nigerians to see without further delay.
“As for the campaign of calumny against Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, we are appealing to the former President to forgive every wrong against him from our honourable gentlemen of Nigerian senate. We also like to plead with the father of the Nation, to continue his good work as he plays his statesmanship role, in the interest of the masses and the entire citizens of Nigeria.
“At this juncture, NOUSAN welcomes the new Vice Chancellor of the school, Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, as we hope and believe his assumption of office will bring good fortune, and an end to the long suffering and shortcomings, befalling the students of this prestigious institution. NOUSAN also prays his appointment brings in a peaceful atmosphere, and a cordial relationship between the School Management and the students in all study centers across the country, and in bridging the long existing gap between the students and the management.”
