By Olusegun Lawrence                 The Senate has commenced move to amend the Act establishing the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) to extend the validity of its Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) to three years.
While considering the report of its Committee on Tertiary Institutions and TETFUND on Wednesday, the Upper Chamber, also directed downwards review of JAMB examination fees from N5,600 to N2,500.
Prompt News recalls that the Senate had in 2015, mandated the committee chaired by Senator Binta Garba (APC, Adamawa North) to investigate the new JAMB admissions policy.
The report noted that most of the Universities had low capacity to accommodate the number of students who seek admission on a yearly basis.
Consequently at plenary, the Senate adopted the recommendation that the UTME examination should have a validity period of three years.
In addition, the Senate resolved that computer laboratories should be built in all higher institutions of learning to aid Computer Based Test (CBT).
