The three tiers of government have been urged to invest on the provision of adequate health services in the country to reduce the increasing mortality among women of child bearing age.
The advice was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the first annual conference of Women’s Fellowship, Methodist Diocese of Kubwa.
The communiqué jointly signed by the President and Secretary of the Fellowship, Mrs. Atinuke Babalola and Chinomso Okeh also bemoaned the high level of corruption in the country noting that women always bear the brunt of the adverse effects of corruption hence the need for government to do more in tackling its scourge.
The women also tasked the government especially the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to do more in the empowerment and education of women in order for them to take their rightful positions in the society adding that only well educated and empowered women would be able to play a dominant role in children upbringing.
The women also called on the political class to eschew rancor and bitterness which often lead to political instability as the women are often the most affected in case of any crisis.
Over 250 members of the Fellowship drawn from Bwari, Kubwa, Gwagwalada in the Federal Capital Territory and Suleja in Niger State attended the four day conference held at the Methodist Cathedral of Grace, Kubwa, Abuja with the theme “If it had not been the Lord who was on our side”.
