By Mohammed Yangida, Lafia The Nasarawa state government has appealed to all workers in the state to resume work, assuring them that January, 2016 salary is ready for payment.
The Head of the Civil Service and chairman joint public service Negotiating council Government side Mr.Josheph Ancho made the appealed at the weekend shortly after a meeting with the organized Labour in Lafia.
He said government has made far -reaching concessions on the 21 -point demands made by Labour and ready to pay the January salary but so unfortunate that the Labour side was adamant and refused to reciprocate the concessions made by government in the spirit of collective bargaining.
He added that government has taken proactive measures by inviting and holding series of meetings with the leadership of organised Labour which aimed at resolving the issues at stake.
“Contrary to speculations that only a percentage of January 2016 salary was to be paid, Government was ready to pay January, 2016 salary even before the Organized Labour embarked on the current strike action”. He said.
Mr. Ancho who further noted that Government has agreed to grant promotions to all deserving civil servants to date but there will be no financial benefits for the promotion until the economic situation improves.
Reacting to the briefing the labour leader Nasarawa state Abdullahi Adeka said as far as labour union was concerned they have no any concessions with government regards to their demands, but they have reduced their demands from 21 to 14 and emphasized more on demands 1and 2 which are the immediate release of salary voucher for the month of January 2016,payment of salary to workers and all promotions from 2011 to date.
It could be recalled that civil servants in Nasarawa state under the aegis of organised Labour, embarked on an indefinite state -wide industrial action since Friday, 29th January 2016 the strike which was predicated on a 21 -point demands on Government by the Labour Union covering wide range of issues.
