By Gloria Emmanuel No fewer than 35 persons are now being traced in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) following the outbreak of the deadly Lassa fever in Kubwa, a Satellite Town in the nation’s capital.
It will be recalled that the FCT recorded its first death on Wednesday; prompting urgent action to trace those the patient may have come in contact with.
With the FCT death, the total number of deaths recorded so far from Lassa fever in the country is now 43, covering 10 states.
According to Prof. Abudulsalam Nasidi, Coordinator, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) 15 persons have been placed under surveillance while 35 are still being traced.
He said the number of people under surveillance may increase before the end of the day as the contact tracing is still on.
Meanwhile, the National Hospital has set up Isolation Centre for the treatment of Lassa fever.
The Spokesperson of the National Hospital, Mr. Tayo Hastrup disclosed this on Thursday.
He assured that hospital workers have been prepared for such cases should there be any reoccurrence.
However, Hastrup said the test conducted on the other suspected patient came out negative.
He therefore assured FCT residents that the hospital was adequately prepared and ready to deal with any emergency.
