Chelsea have confirmed that club captain Reece James has undergone successful knee surgery, Prompt News Online reports.
James missed Chelsea’s 5-1 victory over Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Saturday as he underwent medical assessments following an injury sustained during training.
The assessments subsequently revealed that surgery was necessary to address the problem.
In a statement, Chelsea said James had already begun his recovery process and would receive support from the club’s medical team at Cobham throughout his rehabilitation.
“Reece has already begun his road to recovery and will be supported by the club’s medical department at Cobham during this rehabilitation phase,” the club stated.
“Everyone at Chelsea wishes Reece a speedy recovery and will support him on his road to return.”
The England international is expected to spend some time on the sidelines as he focuses on recovering from the injury, although the club has not specified a return date.
Chelsea are scheduled to face Everton in their next Premier League fixture on Saturday as they continue their campaign without their captain.
