A Nigerian national who worked on a Democratic congressional campaign in the United States has been arrested by immigration authorities following his guilty plea to a disorderly conduct charge linked to an alleged public indecent exposure incident.
The US Department of Homeland Security identified the man as Chimaobim Adedayo Igbojekwe in a statement issued on October 7, 2026.
According to the department, Igbojekwe was arrested in East Pennsboro Township, Pennsylvania, on September 27 over allegations of indecent exposure and disorderly conduct. He subsequently pleaded guilty to the disorderly conduct charge.
The department said Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested him on October 1, following his conviction.
Igbojekwe was reportedly working as a canvasser for Janelle Stelson, the Democratic nominee for Pennsylvania’s 10th congressional district, when the incident occurred.
Citing local media reports, the DHS alleged that he was found with his trousers off and exposing himself in a residential neighbourhood near a park where residents, including children, were present.
Reacting to the development, ICE Deputy Director Charles Wall criticised Stelson for employing Igbojekwe, whom the agency described as an illegal immigrant.
Wall said the Trump administration was committed to identifying and removing undocumented immigrants considered dangerous to public safety, adding that the safety of Americans remained a priority.
The DHS disclosed that Igbojekwe was legally admitted into the US in June 2017 but remained in the country after his authorised period of stay expired in November 2019.
It added that he was granted deferred action by the administration of former President Joe Biden in September 2021.
