President Bola Tinubu will address Nigerians on Thursday, October 1, as the country commemorates its 66th Independence anniversary.
The national broadcast is scheduled to begin at 7am, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Onanuga directed television and radio stations, as well as other electronic media organisations, to connect to the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria for the broadcast.
The address is expected to form part of activities marking Nigeria’s independence from British colonial rule.
Nigeria attained independence on October 1, 1960, and has since marked the date annually as its Independence Day.
The 66th anniversary comes amid ongoing discussions about the country’s economic situation, security and other national issues.
Tinubu’s address will therefore provide an opportunity for the President to speak to Nigerians on the state of the nation and his administration’s priorities.
The President has previously used Independence Day broadcasts to outline government policies and appeal for national unity.
