An artisan has been electrocuted while clearing weeds on the roof of a shopping plaza along Ehi Road in Aba, Abia State.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening shortly after heavy rainfall in the city.
The identity of the victim had yet to be established as of the time of filing this report.
The artisan was reportedly hired to clear weeds on the roof of the plaza when he slipped on the wet surface and lost his balance.
He subsequently came into contact with live electrical wires supplying power to the building and was electrocuted.
An eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the victim reportedly cried out after touching the wires, noting that electricity supply was on when the incident occurred.
The incident attracted residents and other onlookers to the area, with many expressing concern over the circumstances surrounding the worker’s death.
Some residents called on property owners to ensure that electrical installations, particularly high-tension wires, were kept at safe distances from buildings and work areas.

As of the time of filing this report, relevant Abia State government agencies and the Nigeria Police Force had yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
