Nigeria’s Falconets have received a major boost ahead of their crucial 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup encounter with China, following the arrival of Benfica striker Janet Akekoromowei, Prompt News Online reports.
The 18-year-old forward missed Nigeria’s opening game against Spain after Benfica failed to release her in time for the tournament.
Akekoromowei arrived from Portugal on Wednesday and immediately joined her teammates in training, increasing Moses Aduku’s attacking options ahead of the must-win encounter.
The striker is expected to spearhead Nigeria’s attack as the Falconets look to bounce back from their disappointing 2-0 defeat to Spain in their opening Group-stage fixture.
China, meanwhile, made a flying start to the tournament, recording a convincing 5-0 victory over debutants New Caledonia.
The Falconets will need a positive result against the Chinese to revive their hopes of progressing to the knockout stage.
The match will be played at the Arena Sosnowiec and is scheduled to kick off at 5pm Nigerian time.
