More than 100 suspected “imported” voters have reportedly been arrested in Osun State amid allegations of attempts to manipulate Saturday’s governorship election.
The individuals, who were said to be in possession of newly issued Permanent Voter Cards, were reportedly found staying at the residence of one Abiola Ibrahim ahead of the election.
The arrests followed allegations that the voters had been brought into the state by a member of the Accord Party to participate in the governorship poll.
The development occurred as voters across the state turned out to elect the next governor, with heightened security measures deployed to forestall electoral malpractice and violence.
The identities of those arrested and the circumstances surrounding their alleged movement into the state were not immediately disclosed.
It was also unclear, as of the time of filing this report, which security agency made the arrests or whether the suspects had been formally charged.
The alleged incident could not be independently verified, while there was no immediate response from the Accord Party or the relevant security authorities.
