The Bayelsa State Police Command has begun an investigation into the death of a National Youth Service Corps member, Stanley Okebaram, whose body was recovered in Nembe Local Government Area after he was declared missing.

Although unverified reports claimed that the corps member had drown inside a river.

Confirming the development on Tuesday, the Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Musa Mohammed, said detectives had commenced a discreet investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

He disclosed that the deceased’s remains had been deposited in a morgue pending the outcome of the investigation.

Okebaram, a 27-year-old graduate of Civil Engineering and former President of the Students’ Union Government of the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede, was serving in the riverine Nembe Creek community before his disappearance.

According to security sources, the corps member was last seen on the evening of July 24, after which all efforts to reach him through his mobile phone lines proved unsuccessful.

His disappearance was officially reported to the police on July 25 by a fellow corps member, Aribisola Bisi Isaac, who was accompanied by Adeola Marvelous.

The report prompted security operatives to launch a search operation in the creek community, located about 45 minutes by boat from the Nembe Divisional Police Headquarters.

The search eventually led to the recovery of Okebaram’s lifeless body from a body of water in the area.

Preliminary reports indicated that he may have been attacked by unidentified assailants, although police authorities have yet to establish the exact cause of his death.
