Toni Payne is targeting a successful title defence with the Super Falcons at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Prompt News Online reports.
The 31-year-old was part of the Super Falcons side that won a record 10th title at the last edition of the 2024 edition of the competition.
Justine Madugu’s side are looking to successfully defend their title in Morocco.
There is also added pressure, with the WAFCON 2026 finals serving as the qualifying tournament for 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Payne claimed that the team will be under pressure to replicate their success at this year’s edition.
“It is known that Nigeria has this reputation of being the Giants of Africa,” Payne told FIFPRO.
“Playing for the Super Falcons holds a lot of weight, and there is a bit of pressure that we win the WAFCON.”
The Super Falcons will begin their title defence against Malawi on Tuesday.
