The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Ahmed Saleh, for allegedly posing as a police officer to gain unlawful access to a female students’ hostel at Malikiyya College of Health in Bauchi.
Saleh, who resides in the Kobi area of the state, is also being investigated over allegations of attempted rape and theft.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Nafiu Habib, said the suspect was apprehended following a distress call received from the institution in the early hours of Friday.
According to the police, the report, received at about 6:30 a.m., indicated that a man dressed in a full police camouflage uniform had entered the female hostel around 2:30 a.m. and claimed to be attached to Garu Security Service in Bauchi.
Acting on the information, the Divisional Police Officer of the ‘B’ Division led a team of detectives and patrol officers to the scene, where the suspect was arrested.
Police also recovered the camouflage uniform allegedly worn by Saleh during the operation.
Preliminary investigations further linked the suspect to a series of theft incidents previously reported within the hostel premises.
The police said the suspect remains in custody while investigations continue and will be arraigned breach court upon the conclusion of the inquiry.
Reacting to the incident, the Commissioner of Police in Bauchi State, Sani Omolori Aliyu, warned individuals and private security organisations against impersonating law enforcement agencies.
