The organisers of the Headies Awards have revealed plans to take the next edition of the ceremony outside Nigeria once again, announcing Canada as the host country for the 18th edition.
This marks another international shift for the awards, which were previously held in Atlanta in 2022 for its 15th edition before returning to Lagos in 2025 for the 17th edition.
Speaking on Monday at “The Big Announcement” held at Eko Hotels and Suites in Lagos, Headies founder Ayo Animashaun explained that the decision to stage the event in Toronto is largely based on financial considerations.
Prompt News reports he noted that while the main ceremony will take place in Canada, fans in Nigeria will still be part of the experience through a planned live watch party in Lagos, where portions of the event will be streamed.

Animashaun said, “Someone said Ayo, you are taking the Headies out of the country again, he said it doesn’t make sense. Tell me what makes sense. Does it make sense for us not to do it anymore?
“So how do we fund it? We will have a watch Party in Lagos.”
