Nollywood star and award-winning filmmaker Funke Akindele has shared an emotional message of appreciation after receiving multiple honours from the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB) in recognition of her remarkable impact on Nigeria’s film industry.

The honours were presented at a ceremony held on Friday at the NFVCB office in Ikoyi, Lagos, where industry leaders and stakeholders gathered to celebrate outstanding achievements in film and entertainment.

Akindele emerged as one of the most decorated recipients, winning the Box Office Champion Award (2020) for her hugely successful movie Omo Ghetto. She also secured the Audience Choice Award (2024/2025) and the Box Office Champion Award (2024/2025) for Everybody Loves Jenifa, in addition to the Box Office Champion Award (2025/2026) for Behind The Scenes.

Reacting via her Instagram page, the actress described the recognition as a powerful reminder that dedication and perseverance truly pay off.

“Yesterday was truly special. I was honoured and recognised for my hard work and consistency in the entertainment industry, and my heart is full of gratitude,” she wrote.

She also extended her thanks to key figures and organisations who made the event memorable.

“My sincere appreciation to Dr Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the Nigerian Film and Video Censors Board, and to Honourable Hannatu Musawa, Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy of Nigeria, for this incredible recognition.

“Thank you to all the guilds and associations who showed up in love and support — AGN, AMP, CEAN, DGN, RATTAWU.”
