Manchester City Manager Manuel Pellegrini was disappointed to see his side pick up just a solitary point from his travels to Villa Park on Sunday as the team that is bottom of the Premier League standings held his title chasers to a nil-nil draw.
Pellegrini said after the game, “Of course we’re frustrated. We deserved to win the game. They had one shot in the whole game. I was happy with the way we played, especially in the second half but we were unlucky not to score.”
The Man City boss was also quick to point out that the presence of a new Manager in Remi Garde did not help his team’s preparation as they didn’t really know what kind of a team the Frenchman would put out in his first game in-charge of Villa. Pellegrini said, “I think we waited to find out which team we were playing. It’s hard when you face a new manager. We played really well in the second half but didn’t score.
When quizzed about whether he felt England international Raheem Sterling should have been awarded a penalty for the perceived trip by Ciaran Clark, Pellegrini chose not to be dragged into the criticism, saying, “I don’t talk about it – the referee says it’s not a penalty so it’s not a penalty.” – The Sports Campus
