Gospel singer Mercy Chinwo has spoken out about an alleged campaign of bullying and threats to her life by her former manager, who she claims was also behind circulating false rumors about the paternity of her child.
In a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, Chinwo, who did not name her former manager, revealed that he had threatened her safety, forcing her to move from Lagos to Port Harcourt.
She also addressed the online accusations involving Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, stating that her ex-manager, who reportedly harbors animosity toward Bassey, was responsible for spreading fake news claiming Bassey was the father of her child.
Chinwo shared, “A man came out, claiming I sued him. He made videos online to tarnish my reputation, saying, ‘I made you who you are, and I will destroy you.’ I became fearful for my life, and eventually, I had to leave Lagos because he made it unbearable for me.”
She continued, “I’ve endured bullying and threats. What he’s doing on social media now is nothing compared to what I went through.”
The singer revealed that the former manager took her to court and publicly announced it online, accusing her of suing him.
“You took myself and Minister JudiKay to court. Now you’re playing the victim,” she added.
Chinwo also accused her former manager of withholding her royalties for two years and of sponsoring false claims about her son’s paternity, particularly in connection with Pastor Nathaniel Bassey.
She said, “Because this man hates Pastor Nathaniel Bassey, he spread fake news about my innocent son, claiming he wasn’t my child. He even paid bloggers to spread these lies and tried to stop me from attending Pastor Jerry Eze’s event.”
This comes after Nathaniel Bassey, in April 2024, called for an investigation into four individuals who falsely accused him of being the father of Chinwo’s child.
The rumor, which went viral on social media, was later debunked.
The allegations also highlight an ongoing dispute between Chinwo and Ezekiel Onyedikachi, aka EeZee Tee, the owner of her former record label, EeZee Conceptz.
Chinwo’s lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi, stated that the professional relationship between the two turned sour in 2019 when EeZee allegedly requested to extend Chinwo’s five-year contract to 12 years, which she declined.
The lawyer added that EeZee Tee continues to intimidate and isolate Chinwo, causing her distress.
