The Niger State Police Command has detained Jamilu Saidu for allegedly killing 30-year-old Iliyasu Aminu during a wedding ceremony at Kumbashi District, Mariga Local Government Area.
Police Public Relations Officer Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday, revealing that the altercation took place on Saturday.
Abiodun explained that a dispute between two villages, Yabawa and Ungwar Sarkin-Daji, erupted during the wedding celebration, causing significant tension in the area.
In the midst of the confrontation, Saidu allegedly struck Aminu in the head with a machete, resulting in his death.
The police arrested Saidu, a resident of Kumbashi District, Mariga LGA, on January 18, 2025, at around 8 p.m.
He has confessed to the crime and has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Minna for further investigation and prosecution.
Saidu was among several individuals recently apprehended by the police for various offenses in Niger State.
