Nollywood actor, producer, skit maker and stand-up comedian, AY Makun, popularly known as AY, has achieved great success with his new film, The Waiter, which has made over ₦300 million at the Nigerian box office.
As of the 16th of January, 2025, it has grossed ₦302 million, solidifying its place as a top Nollywood film.
In its fourth week, it earned an additional ₦26.6 million, keeping its strong performance amid stiff competition.
Released on 20th of December, 2024, The Waiter swiftly caught the attention of viewers, earning over ₦200 million within its first two weeks, totaling ₦218.6 million by early January.
These figures align it with other top Nollywood films, like Toyin Abraham’s Alakada: Bad and Boujee, which launched on the same date, and the record-setting Everybody Loves Jenifa, which has grossed more than #1.6 billion.
The movie centers on Akpos, portrayed by AY Makun, a man facing tough times who gets a short-term job as a waiter at the fancy Crystal Hotel.
His life changes unexpectedly during a major event led by the Minister of Poverty Alleviation, where a plan to help the less fortunate is revealed.
With a blend of humor, action, and touching scenes, The Waiter tells a compelling story that has struck a chord with viewers.
