The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) secretariat in Benin City, Edo State, has been raided by unknown assailants.
The attackers are reported to have destroyed property and stolen valuable items during the assault.
The incident follows the aftermath of the September 2024 governorship election in Edo State, in which Senator Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Okpebholo secured 291,667 votes, defeating the PDP’s candidate, Asue Ighodalo, who received 247,274 votes. Olumide Akpata of the Labour Party came in third with 22,763 votes.
The PDP has since rejected the election results and filed petitions seeking to overturn the outcome.
The attack comes shortly after a similar disruption at the Edo State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, headed by Justice Wilfred Kpochi.
During a session at the tribunal, gunmen opened fire, creating chaos among lawyers, politicians, and observers present, mirroring the violence that occurred on Thursday.
