The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has reported the tragic death of two men who fell into a diesel tank in the Oregun area of Lagos on Saturday.
In a statement, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, explained that the incident occurred along Ikosi-Oregun Road.
“At 10:37 a.m., distress calls were received through the emergency lines 767 and 112, prompting an immediate deployment of our response team from the Command and Control Centre in Alausa, Ikeja,” the statement revealed.
Upon arrival at the scene around 10:47 a.m., responders found that two men had fallen into the reservoir. Investigations indicated that the first victim accidentally fell into the tank while working. Tragically, the second man also fell in while attempting to save the first.
The victims were rescued in critical condition, administered first aid on-site, and rushed to the hospital by the Lagos State Ambulance Service.
“Despite the efforts of medical personnel, both men sadly passed away,” Oke-Osanyintolu stated.
Emergency teams have secured the area and are conducting further evaluations to prevent such occurrences in the future.
