As the race for 2015 Presidential election gathers momentum, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East Zone, has adopted President Goodluck Jonathan as the Party’s Presidential candidate.
Speaking at zone’s rally held at Ekwueme square in Awka on Friday, Col. Austin Akobundu, the South East zonal Vice Chairman of the party, said they were convinced that President Jonathan should be given a second term to complete the good work he has started.
According to him, “The PDP in the South East zone has declared its full support for Mr. President, Goodluck Jonathan, to contest a second term in office. He has done very well, he deserves second term and we the PDP in the South East zone will work very hard to deliver him”.
The party leadership in the zone presented Keneth Emekayi as the authentic chairman of the party in the state having been confirmed by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC).
In his acceptance speech, Emeakayi assured party members of the party’s commitment to winning the next gubernatorial election, saying all members would be carried along.
However, he canvassed transparent primaries ahead of the election, urging the national leadership to avoid imposition.
Present at the rally were: Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, Chief Mrs Josephine Anenih (sole female aspirant), Chief Sylvester Okonkwo and Dr Obinna Uzoh, Ugochukwu Okeke, Walter Ubaka Okeke, Tony Nwoye, Emma Anosike, Dr Alex Obiogbolu and Charles Odunukwe.
Meanwhile, the Uba brothers, Andy and Chris were absent at the rally.
