A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nanfwang Dachi Gunat, has called on President Bola Tinubu and leaders of the party to immediately convene a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in order to address the challenges and wranglings in the party.
Gunat who was a member of Support Groups Coordination (North Central) for the Tinubu/Shettima Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), said such a meeting should also focus on removing the embattled National Chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje, and replacing him with a North Central candidate.
Speaking with newsmen in Jos, the Plateau State capital, Gunat said as a grassroots politician and mobilizer who served on the presidential campaign council of the APC, he understands the feelings of the people, and that there is grumbling in several quarters and feeling of dissatisfaction among the people.
“As an APC party chieftain and member of the presidential campaign council who coordinated support groups for North Central, I am calling of the President and the leadership of the party to as a matter of urgency call for the NEC meeting to replace the embattled National Chairman, Abdullahi Ganduje.
“It is also worth stressing that the National Chairmanship position is for the North Central, and after Abdullahi Adamu stepped down there was no reason for the position to go outside the zone.
“Most of the stakeholders and party faithful from the North Central zone are patiently waiting for the National Chairmanship position to be reverted back to the zone. And if this is not done, it could stir the feeling of dissatisfaction among the people.
“That is why I am calling on the President to urgently call for NEC meeting that will address that issue before this feeling grows among the people and begin to have adverse effect on the party. Besides, if there are other grey areas that needed to be sorted out, the meeting can equally address all of them.
“But if the President and other party leaders just keep quiet, while majority are grumbling and getting dissatisfied with several things, it could suddenly boomerang, and would then become difficult to address. So, the earlier, the better; the NEC meeting should be called and all the contending issues be addressed,” he said.
He commended the President for the recent appointment of Nentawe Yilwatda as the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction from Plateau State, saying that agitations were almost brewing in the state over non-representation in his cabinet, after the resignation of Simon Lalong as minister.
He said since the appointment of Yilwatda however, the tensed atmosphere has calmed down and many people have expressed the feeling of joy.
Gunat however called on Yilwatda to perform well and not disappoint the president, the people of the state and the country at large.
He urged the Minister for Humanitarian Affairs to bring his experience to bear and work towards boosting the policies of President Tinubu’s administration, and also his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ (Independent).
