Nigeria’s Flamingos were eliminated from the 2024 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup following a 2-0 defeat to USA on Saturday night.
It was sweet revenge for the Americans, who lost at the same quarter-final stage of the competition to the Flamingos two years ago in India.
Prompt News reports that Bankole Olowookere’s side started the game brightly but were unable to covert their chances.
The Americans scored the game’s opening goal from the spot through Kennedy Fuller three minutes before the break.
The Flamingos came out smoking after the break but were unable to find their way back into the game.
Instead, it was the Americans that doubled their advantage with Kimmi Ascanio slotting home after she was set up by Fuller.
USA reached the semi-final of the competition for the first time since the 2008 edition.
