The Abigael Funmilayo Oyedele Foundation (TOFA) has donated learning materials to students with special needs in Sokoto State.
Speaking during the ceremony held on Thursday at A.A. Raji Special School, its founder, Mr Abayomi Adebayo, described the event as an emotional moment.
He said the foundation sought to create opportunities that would enrich the lives of the students with special needs.
“TOFA Foundation is a non-profit organisation dedicated to uplifting the less privileged and disadvantaged in our society.
“Our mission is rooted in the belief that every individual, regardless of their circumstances, deserves the opportunity to thrive and succeed,” he said.
Adebayo said the journey embarked by the foundation was to honor the legacy’s of their grandmother and matriarch, late Mama Abigail Funmilayo Oyedele.
“We are on a journey to honor her legacy by empowering lives, inspiring hope, and making a difference one smile at a time,” he added.
Also speaking, the Sokoto State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Alhaji Tukur Alkali, highlighted the government’s prioritisation of education.
Represented by the Director of Administration in the Ministry, Abubakar Salame, Alkali said the administration had paid WAEC and NECO fees for the students.
According to him, it is also currently renovating dilapidated schools in collaboration with the AGILE programme.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Alhaji Umaru Nagwari, expressed gratitude to the foundation for its support.
He called on other private individuals and corporate bodies to emulate the foundation’s example, saying that government efforts alone were not enough to meet the needs of the education sector.
“We have been longing for this kind of intervention because the government cannot do it alone,” he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the materials donated included school bags, exercise books, Braille sheets, slates, and styluses for the visually-impaired students. (NAN).
