The Federal Government has established 9 man Technical Committee on Teachers’ Training and Support, paving the way for a transformative overhaul of Nigeria’s education system.
The Minister of Education, Professor Tahir Mamman who made the announcement sequel to a meeting with UNESCO Representative Mr. Abdourahamane Diallo in the Ministry, said the initiative underscores the critical role of teachers empowerment.
The committee members include education experts, UNESCO representatives, and key stakeholders with responsibility of evaluating, enhancing current training programs, as well as designing and implementing new modules .
The committee is to deliver quality education through the teacher support and training for basic and secondary schools. Also to review existing policies, practices across the board.
Professor Mamman stated, “Teachers are the backbone of our education system. This committee will provide them with world-class training and support, elevating education quality.”
He stated further that the Ministry is starting a new curriculum for basic education that will inculcate education and skill which requires training and retraining for teachers in skill development.
Mr. Diallo emphasized UNESCO’s commitment, noting the committee’s importance in advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and addressing key education policies. He emphasized their commitment to support the ministry in development of policies for the teachers.
He also stated that there will be a blueprint that will guide teachers training programs for review and assessment. The blueprint for teacher development, covering digital skills, working conditions, and more.
According to a statement by the Director of Press and Public Relations in the Ministry, Mrs Folasade Boriowo on Thursday, the “initiative marks a major step in the government’s efforts to reform education, with initial findings expected within six months”. READ ALSO:
