The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Defence, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana has officially inaugurated a committee tasked with reviewing the proposed Veterans Federation of Nigeria Bill.
The committee’s primary objective is to propose necessary amendments to the bill, aiming to replace the Nigerian Legion Act, Cap N119 Laws of the Federation, 2004.
The inauguration ceremony, held at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja, was attended by esteemed members, including retired Maj Gen AM Jibril, National Chairman of the Nigerian Legion, and Mrs. Olu Mustapha, Director of the Joint Services Department, Ministry of Defence, among others.
In his address, the Permanent Secretary charged the committee members with a solemn duty to diligently review the proposed bill and proffer immediate solutions to enhance the welfare and livelihoods of Nigerian veterans.
He emphasized the critical importance of ensuring that the proposed legislation aligns with the evolving needs and aspirations of our esteemed veterans.
Dr. Kana stated, “Our veterans have selflessly served our nation with honor and distinction. It is imperative that we prioritize their well-being and address their concerns through effective legislation. I urge the committee members to work tirelessly towards developing a comprehensive bill that will significantly improve the lives of our veterans.”
The committee, with Dr. Kana serving as Chairman, is poised to conduct thorough deliberations and consultations to ensure that the proposed Veterans Federation of Nigeria Bill adequately addresses the pressing issues facing Nigerian veterans.
