A Surulere Chief Magistrates’ Court sitting in Lagos, on Thursday remanded a 24-year-old saleswoman, Confidence Oko, charged with stealing N3.6 million from her employer.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, had pleaded guilty to the charge of stealing.
The Magistrate, Mrs I.R. Sanusi, consequently ordered the remand of the defendant and adjourned the case until Feb. 19 for review of facts and sentencing.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Insp Reuben Solomon, had told the court that the defendant committed the offence between Nov. 8, 2023 and Jan. 15, at Shop 393, Tejuosho Ultral Mordern Market, Surulere. Lagos.
“The defendant converted the money realised from the sales of different fabrics to her personal Union bank account and Opay account.

“Instead of remitting the sales proceeds into her employer’s account, she used the money for personal use,” he said.
The offence, Solomon said, contravened Section 287 (7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 prescribes a three-year jail term for stealing. (NAN)
