** Blames carnage on lack of political will by govt

By Harry Awurumibe, Editor, Abuja Bureau

As many Nigerians continue to fall victims to kidnapping syndicates, terrorists and other criminal elements across the country, InterPol Security Consultant, Chikwe Udensi, has blamed the unending insecurity on lack of political will by the federal government to deal with the monster once and for all.

Speaking on AIT breakfast programme Kakaaki monitored in Abuja on Tuesday, Udensi insisted that the inability of the government to devise means of tackling the scourge of insecurity in Nigeria leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, adding that the country is the worst for it.

According to the InterPol Security Consultant, Nigeria has the capacity to stop the spate of insecurity ravaging the country if there is a political will on the part of the federal government to combat the evil, pointing out that insecurity is stoppable.

Said he:”I have always believed that Nigeria has the capability and capacity to stop insecurity in the country. Yes, insecurity is stoppable but problem is that there is no political will to tackle it”.

Udensi who described the situation as unfortunate insists that Nigeria does not have the tools required to deal with the threat just as he likened Nigeria as someone who has maleria bout, has the money to buy anti-maleria drugs but refused to buy the medicines to cure the ailment.

“Infact, Nigeria is like someone who is suffering from a maleria illness, has the money to buy the drugs to cure the ailment but refused to do so but continue to complain of the sickness”, he said.

Udensi however revealed that security experts like himself have always identified the problems of insecurity and have proferred solutions to the authorities but regretted that successive governments have failed to heed the advices, including the suggestion to properly reposition the Nigeria Police Force.

Said he: “We complain about the spate of insecurity but the lead agency (Police) is under motivated in terms of welfare. Look, the large chunk of the personnel who are expected to secure lives and properties are in the lower ranks of the Police and the country is the worse for it. They less than N45,000 per month.

“Can anyone in today’s Nigeria survive on N100,000 per month, not to talk of less amount of money. With this scenario, there is little to be expected from such ill-motivated Force”.

The security expert also lamented the lavish lifestyle of the elected and appointed federal and states government officials and heads of federal government Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDA), pointing out that they live in affluence while those who secure the people life from hand to mouth.

On how to combat the rising incidents of insecurity in Nigeria, Udensi called for the establishment of States Police or quasi-security outfits like Amotekun, Civilian JTF, Ebube Agu and other outfits that are closer to the people.

On the tools to stop Insecurity, he said there is an Isreali tool that can track the locations and conversations of the kidnappers, terrorists and other criminal elements but regretted that government and security agencies have not explored such opportunities to fight crime. READ ALSO:

He also believes that such equipment will enable the country track and police the country’s vast land borders, arguing that the unsecured borders breeds insecurity.

Said he: “Nigeria has 5 major entry posts and 22 checkpoints as well as about 2,000 illegal border crossing across the country. We all know that after the fall of Libya, the country’s ammunition was looted and such weapons flooded Nigeria through the porous borders”.

Meanwhile, the InterPol Security Consultant has given a knock to the National Security Adviser (NSA) Mallam Nuhu Ribadu for saying sister security agencies should not wear camouflage uniforms, saying the ban is ill-advised and unnecessary at the present time when he should be focusing on how to stem the Insecurity in the land.
