The National Commission for the Coordination and Control of Proliferation of Small Arms and Light Weapons, NATCOM, says its has concluded arrangement to train and employ a total of 7,000 personnel in each state to address the prevalent problem of illegal weaponry.
Under this initiative according to NATCOM, it will collaborate effectively with other security agencies to drive its vision.
The Acting Director-General of NATCOM, Otunba Dr Adejare Rewane Adegbenro highlighted this imperative mission in a statement he personally signed and made available to journalists in Abuja, yesterday even as he also emphasized his agency’s dedication to this crucial cause.
The statement explained: “We are going to employ about 300,000 personnel across the country with a viewing to making our nation a safer place. We won’t just employ, they will all undergo effective training. This in itself will also reduce the unemployment rate in the country. “We are aligning fully with 8- point agenda of his His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in which security is the focal point. Of course, with no security, development will be hard to come by”
“Regarding the employment of 7000 personnel per state, those interested should be on the look out for the guidelines on national dailies. But one thing is certain, we are looking for energetic and trainable youths” he emphasized.
In another development, the NATCOM boss also paid a courtesy visit to the Former Head of State, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida at the weekend in Minna Niger State.
