Three unemployed men were docked in a Grade I Area Court in Karu, Abuja for allegedly robbing and pushing a passenger out of a moving vehicle.
The police charged James Jacob, John Idrfa and Kefas Akaaer are charged with criminal conspiracy and theft.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The Prosecution Counsel, Mr Olanrewaju Osho, told the court that the matter was reported at the Garki Police Station.
Osho said the on April 8, the complainant boarded a Golf III with registration number APP773CF driven by Jacob to the Central Business District.
He said halfway through the journey, the defendants stole the passenger’s Samsung Galaxy cellphone and forced the complainant out of the car and zoomed off.
During police investigation, he said, the cellphone was recovered from the defendants.
Osho said that the offence contravened the provisions of sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
The Judge, Malam Umar Mayana, admitted the defendants to bail and two two sureties in like sum, who must be civil servants not below GL14.
Mayana also ordered the sureties to submit verifiable means of identification and statement of account.
He adjourned the case until June 8, for hearing. (NAN)
