A prison in Calabar, Cross River State was attacked by unknown gunmen on Friday.
Report monitored on Rhythm FM in Abuja, says some of the inmates were freed during the attack.
However, the exact number of the inmates set free could not be ascertained as the time of filling this report.
There has been increasing cases of attacks on prison in recent times.
Prompt News reports that a prison was attacked in Ekiti last year during which dozens of inmates were freed.
Also, another prison in Minna, Niger State was attacked shortly after the Ekiti jail break.
It is believed that Boko Haram sect is behind most of the jail breaks aimed at freeing their members being detained in various prisons across the country.
