Despite the postponement of the 2015 elections from February 14 and 28 to March 28 and April 11 respectively, a popular students’ group, Lagos Students’ Forum, LSF has declared a three-day fasting and prayer for victory of the All Progressives Congress, APC governorship candidate for the State, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode at the poll.
The forum, which comprises of students leaders of all tertiary institutions in Lagos, said March 1st to 3rd has been declared to seek the face of God for the emergence of the student-friendly government promised by Ambode.
The forum in a statement signed by its coordinator, Matthew Opeoluwa and the secretary, Adeola John
reaffirmed its undiluted support for the APC candidate.
The group said its members and every student in Lagos tertiary institutions will not be discouraged from supporting their choice candidate with or without the six-week postponement.
Matthew stressed further that the group has carefully examined the plans of Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode and his major opposition of the People Democratic Party, PDP, Mr. Jimi Agbaje especially for the education sector before concluding on mobilizing students support for Ambode who can be trusted with the continuity of the wonderful deeds of Governor Raji Fashola in the State.
“Lagos residents are happy with the governance of the APC for the past 16 years and the continuity of the enviable wonders Fashola is doing can only be entrusted in hands of Ambode who is an experienced civil servant, with close to 30 years of participation in governance from grassroot to the state stage.
“LSF is a forum for student leaders across the tertiary institutions in Lagos state, a platform for sharing and agitating for issues of common interest to all students in the State.
“Majority of Lagos tertiary institutions students reside in Lagos, they are equally non-partisan voters with no affiliation to any political party but we have pledged to give our votes to Ambode and no postponement can utter it,” he added.
The group therefore called on it members, students and Nigerian youths to pray against any plan to jeopardize the future of the nation which belong to the youths.
He said, “We agree the election is postponed for the good of every Nigerian and we seek no details from either INEC or the Federal Government because we believe no matter what the plan is, Lagosians have made up their minds for continuity and Nigerians are ready for change.
“As youths, we are ready to stand against and defeat plans to continue mortgaging our future and nothing will kill that spirit not even postponement of elections to May 27.”
