Defending Champions, Arsenal Kiddies Football Academy defeated hard fighting New Era boys 2-1 in a pulsating final yesterday to win the 3rd edition of the Dr. Chukwudi Ogbolu U-12 Kids Cup (CKC).
The final match which was watched by a capacity crowd at the A-Division Police playing field in Ilorin, saw Arsenal Kiddies take the lead in the 8th minute of the first half. In the 20th minute, an onrushing attacker of New Era Football Academy, latched on a loose ball following a defensive blunder by an Arsenal Kiddies player to level up.
Arsenal Kiddies made two tactical changes in the second half and this resulted in the second goal after an interchange of telegraphic passes by the Kiddies.
Credit must be given to the home supporters of Arsenal kiddies who conducted themselves with dignity and maturity throughout the duration of the game.
In his closing remarks at the occasion while promising to sustain the competition, the sponsor of the tournament, Dr. Chukwudi Ogbolu, a USA-based Medical Practitioner/ Philanthropist, congratulated all the participating teams and urged them to always put in their best.
He thanked the organizer of the tournament, Soni Ahamioje for his love and passion in the development of football at the grassroots.
The high point of this year’s edition was the award of prizes/certificates to teams and gift items to the best coach, most valuable player, best goalkeeper and the youngest player of the tournament.
