Members of Agege Community in Lagos State will  launch a  N500 million education endowment fund to help improve education infrastructure and standard in the area.

Mr Afolabi Ayantayo, a  prominent member of the community and Special Adviser to Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu on Parastatals Monitoring, said this at a news conference in Lagos.

He said the fund, to be launched during the week-long Agege Day celebration, would help to reposition schools and impact positively on students in the community.

Ayantayo described education as the foundation of development ,saying members of the community were committed to promoting the development of the area through investment in education.

The  governor’s aide  added that the annual  celebration, which started on Dec.16 and  will end on Friday (Dec.23), is an opportunity for members of the  community to come together and contribute their quota to the development of  area.

“A lot of programmes and events will also feature  during the week-long  celebration .We want the world to come and celebrate with us.

“All  hands are on deck to guarantee a hitch-free celebration that will educate, entertain, illuminate and excite the entire populace and well-wishers who will be welcomed to  celebrate with us from across the world”, he said.

Ayantayo, also the chairman, organising committee of the celebration , said prominent people and accomplished indigenes of the area ,both in Nigeria and diaspora, had indicated interest to participate in the celebration.

Speaking on the other  events lined up for the celebration, Ayantayo said  there will be  performances by musicians of various genres while theatre practitioners would also be around to provide entertainment.

He added that the event would also feature a beauty pageant ,cultural displays ,and street carnivals.

The committee chairman  said a school debate with the topic : “Moral decadence among the youths: who is to blame, government or parents” will also be organised for secondary school students.

Speaking, Alhaji Ganiyu Egunjobi, Executive Chairman Agege Local Government ,urged all residents to give all their support to ensure a successful celebration.

He commended Mr Mudashiru Obasa, Speaker of the State House of Assembly ,and all residents for their contributions to the development of the area.

According to him, Obasa, with his many contributions, has become the brand ambassador of the area.

Egunjobi said Agege had benefitted immensely from the position and office of Obasa as he had facilitated many development projects to the area. (NAN)
