By Gracious Akujobi Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has secured international friendly matches for the cadet teams in other to put them in the right mood for their upcoming tournaments.
General Secretary of NFF Musa Amadu told Prompt News that arrangement is in the final stage for the national U-20 & U-17 to engage Ghana and Mali cadet teams.
“For the Flying Eagles, we have been able to secure two friendly matches against the Ghana U-20. The first game will be in Abuja on the 15 February while the return leg will be in Accra on the 18 February”
“All things being equal, we hope these matches will go ahead and of course, the Flying Eagles are going to participate in the enlarged Super six which begins on the 24 January and we think this will be a very good preparation for them when they come up against teams like Kano Pillars, Enyimba Warri Wolves, Dolphins and also the U-23 team.
“The U-17 championship is starting in February. We are doing everything possible to see that we get a substitute to play the Golden Eaglets before they go to Niger Republic for the commencement of the Competition in February.
“Their final training camp will be in Sokoto because Sokoto has the same kind of weather with Niger Republic and we will get one of the countries that has qualified for the competition, possibly Mali if they can make it to come to Sokoto and play our team before they now finally go to Niger Republic for our first game against the host country Niger and other countries in our group”.
Asked if the U-17 players will undergo MRI scan before the commencement of the tournament in February, the NFF Scribe replied, “The MRI scan test for the U-17 is ongoing as we speak.
“It is from this pool of 60 players that the coach will get his final 21 players and we have to send the list of the final 21 to CAF by midnight on the 5 February”.
