Five persons were feared dead on Tuesday at the Ebute-Metta area of Lagos State when suspected political thugs clashed, The Eagle Online reports.
The thugs clashed at the Peoples Democratic Party’s primaries.
Eyewitness account claimed that five were persons were killed and many injured.
But the police authority in Lagos State said the story was not true.
The warring parties belong to a former Chairman of Mainland Local Government, popularly known as LADO, and his rival, who is the incumbent representative of the area, also well known as OLOTO.
Police spokesman in Lagos State, Kenneth Nwosu, said there was a mere skirmish in the area after the thugs attempted to foment trouble.
Nwosu added: “But by our record, nobody was killed.
“Only one person was wounded and he was rushed to the hospital.
“The boys were severally warned before the primaries.
“Right now, law and order has returned to the area.
“There is heavy patrol of policemen in that area.”
