A 54-year-old man, Abiodun Olulade, on Friday appeared before an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly stealing motor parts worth N2.5 million from three different men.
The defendant, whose residential address was not provided, is standing trial on a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against him by the police.
The prosecutor, Insp. Benedict Aigbokhan, told the court that the defendant and one other still at large committed the offences on May 7, at 1.00 p.m., at Ikotun, Lagos.
Aigbokhan said that the defendant stole a catalyst from a Mercedes Benz ML 450 model with registration No. EKY 564 HS, valued at N650,000, belonging to one Mr Eric Philips.
The prosecutor added that the defendant stole two other catalysts from two different Mercedes Benz cars.
Aigbokhan said that the defendant also stole a catalyst worth N1.2 million from a Mercedes Benz ML 350 model, marked LND 278 GU, belonging to one Mr Azeez Fatai.
“The defendant also stole a catalyst worth N650,000 from an unregistered Mercedes Benz ML 350, belonging to one, Mr Omotoye Temitope,” he said.
Aigbokhan said that the offences contravened sections 287 and 411 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Magistrate Miss K. A. Ariyo granted him bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Ariyo ordered that the sureties must be gainfully employed and one of the sureties must be a blood relative to the defendant.
She adjourned the case until May 30 for mention. (NAN)
