As more politicians continue to declare their interest to run for the exalted position of the President of Federal Republic of Nigeria especially in the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a chieftain of the party has allayed fears of implosion in the party after the primary election to select the flagbearer for the 2023 General Election.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba insists that the main opposition party has a robust functional organs that are capable to resolve issues which will arise before, during and after the PDP National Convention where the flagbearer of the party for the 2023 General Election will be picked.
Ologunagba who spoke on African Independent Television (AIT) breakfast programme Kakaaki on Tuesday in Abuja said PDP has organs like the National Executive Committee (NEC), National Working Committee (NWC) and Board of Trustees (BoT) which will threat any misgivings from any quarter.
Said he: “PDP is a political party with good structures, a well established party founded on equity and justice. It’s unlike other parties that have no structures of any kind to handle their matters.
“PDP can handle any issues within the party including how to resolve any misgivings that will arise after the party primary election to select our candidate for the 2023 General Elections”.
Asked how the party will handle the large number of aspirants angling for the party’s presidential ticket in the face of the demands by various zones to be allowed to produce the PDP flagbearer, Ologunagba said the party organs will deal with it.
On why would Nigerians vote for the PDP in 2023, the PDP Spokesman said there are thousands of reasons citizens of Nigeria should give his party another chance to come back to power.
“Nigerians can trust PDP again to lead the country because when we (PDP) in power, Nigerians did not suffer adverse economic woes bedeviling the country now. Things were not as bad as we have today.
“Also, the ruling party All Progressives Congress (APC) claims that they are fighting corruption but you don’t fight corruption by mere words. You do that by the establishment of institutions that will be used to fight corruptions.
“It’s on record that PDP established anti-corruption agencies Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), ICPC and set up IPPIS. Our party created the single treasury account and set up institutions to fight insecurity”, Ologunagba concluded.
